Sunday Family Funday- Family Photos

Yesterday was our Sunday family funday, I work almost every Saturday so this is our only day to be together. We try and make the most of it but honestly yesterday I had the nastiest headache. I pulled it together and we had a great day, we started with brunch at "wild eggs" and then got surprised by a visit by out old friend Ben and his awesome girlfriend. They are looking to move into our neighborhood do they were close by. After nap time we went to my parents house for the Broncos game and in the middle we popped over to target to have some family photos done.

Usually we take family pics ourselves as we have a good camera and we take photos constantly, and usually end up with a few good ones for our friends and family. However I bought a groupon for a target session and prints. The pictures came out OK,  I feel like I look like I felt. Headache, a little sweaty and crappy. I wanted a white background but Alex choose the "sapphire" and it looks good.

Here are some of the shots

I took a page out of my sister in law Celia's book and matched our outfits!

I love the one where Alex is sticking out his tongue, we actually have probably half a dozen professional wedding pics where his tongue is out or he is trying to lick my nose. Weirdo.

How cute is my baby! He was not into sitting down and posing at all so the photographer did a great job getting even a few shots of him on his own.

I decided to use this occasion as a chance to show off my amazing new handbag! This was a gift from my mother in law, she gave It to me when she was here last week.

Its a rooster! haha this guy is great, he is huge and I can fit all my stuff inside. I get stares and laughs form strangers.

Head to toe:
Cardigan: Target
Tee: Nordstom Rack
Jeans: Target
Bag: MIL found it in a little boutique.

We got a few cute shots of Alex too, our wedding photographer didn't get any shot of him alone at our wedding so I wanted a few pro shots! Handsome man!

I choose not to put all the photos on here because some of them may end up on the family Christmas card so I want it to be a surprise.

Happy Monday -MB

An ode to pudgy cat.

A more glorious feline cannot be found
He is loved and hated by all around.
A fluffy full tail swished in your face
A scratch or bite if a hair's out of place.
A lover of twizzlers, strawberry foods
A purr to soften the crabbiest moods.
A kitten abandoned in a gutter so small
Now sleeps on my pillow, litter and all.

The Motherbird is tired

What a week! last weekend saw my son with Strep throat, my mother in law in town, a party at our house and now the worse case if diaper rash this momma has seen! But I do not want to slack on my blog, I have a few things in the works that are taking a bit but in the mean time here is an outfit of the day and a "I am proud of my size" link up.

I haven't had much desire to go all out in my outfits this week,  I have been dressing in "comfort professional".

Head to toe:
Glasses: Firmoo
Necklace: Willow
Blouse: Target
Jeans: Target
Clutch: Thrifted
Shoes: Steinmart

I got these new glasses from Firmoo which is another awesome website that gives you your first pair of frames free! I like the look of these but honestly they are to big for my face and keep falling off, gonna have to try to get them sized.

The salon got in the new OPI polish line this week, the Germany collection. I just had to have this color and got my toes done pronto!!

This color is right up my ally and reminds me of OPI Apple Pie which was my favorite color until the chachis over at OPI discontinued it. Still think that OPI makes the best quality polish.

Also I am again linking up with the nearsighted owl for the weekly "I am proud of my size update!

Tomorrow is Andrews last soccer practice for the season and after that I am hoping to catch up on some projects and blogging. Thanks for bearing with me, Have a great weekend!

OOTD, Something old, something new, something Vintage, something blue.

My baby has strep so I haven't had much time to post this week, however I am trying to keep to my goal of at least one outfit of the day per week, regardless of time constraints. Although Andrew is sick, my mother in law is here visiting and we always have a great time when she is here. She kept watch over the boy while Alex shot these OOTD photos for me during his lunch break.

Head to toe:
Glasses: Coastal
Dress: Walmart? Really old
Brooch: Vintage, was GG Frida's
Bag: Thrifted
Shoes: Stein Mart

I just received these glasses today! There are huge and a little silly but I took advantage of Coastal's awesome first pair free deal so I choose something that I normally would not have chosen. I like how high up they sit and the 60's feel they have.

This brooch belonged to Either my Great Grandma Frida or My Great Grandma Elaine. I have had it for at least 15 years so I can't remember which side it came from. My guess is that it was Ms. Frida Belle's because my other Grandma had a penchant for rhinestones and other various bling.

This dress is ancient, I am pretty sure I bought it at Walmart maybe 5 years ago? I like it though and because it is light weight but has the Juliet sleeve I use it a lot during the end of summer, start of Autumn.

Since it was Alex taking my photos today I hammed it up a bit.

I haven't done a weekly link up to The Nearsighted Owl "I am Proud of my size " post for a while. This is partly because lately I have been indulging in Margaritas and what not and wasn't feeling too proud. I have give myself a break though, body acceptance isn't easy, and after a good 25 years of self deprivation in regard to my weight It is only natural to struggle about feeling good about yourself.

Look how patriotic I am! have a great Weekend  -MB

Yee-Haw!

On Sunday we went to the 2nd Annual Denver County Fair! It was a pretty crazy weekend as usual for us but we wanted to go to the fair to see the chickens and goats!

Our first stop was the petting Zoo!I took Andrew to the fair last year and he was too small for the Zoo so I was excited for him to try it out. As usual my boy is always shy and it takes a bit of warming up for him to have fun.

  Goats are pushy for pellets.

This Alpaca was so soft.

I wouldn't mind having an alpaca or two. He was the nicest animal in the petting zoo.

Andrew tries a pellet. Good enough for the goats good enough for me, he says!

Goats are pissed, "Don't eat our pellets!".

I Didn't take an outfit photo but this one is pretty close.
What I Wore:
Necklace: Etsy

Top: Mom
Bag: same vintage bag I've been carrying for a week:  Thrifted.
Jegguns: Target
Boots: Chinese Laundry (DSW?)

It was a little hot for these boots but I pull them out early each summer. Wishful thinking maybe.

This donkey was partial to Alex and Andrew, even though he was a little over stuffed and not overly interested in pellets.

After the petting zoo we threw Andrew into the bounce castle. Again he was a little nervous, but warmed up right when it was time to go.

The fair was fun, but it seemed pretty expensive for what it was. We usually do a lot of stuff on the weekend so we are used to shelling out cash for stuff but the fair seemed a little unreasonable. i felt bad for the vendors because I doubt the were selling much stuff. We spent about 60 bucks just to get in, park, sandwiches and the petting zoo.

Did any of my other Denver peeps go to the fair? let me know!

OOTD, built for comfort not for speed.

 Hi all,

Today I am pretty tired, Andrew got up early and my foot hurts! I have some Plantar Fasciitis in my left foot that is acting up because I walked around in super old flip flops all weekend. I originally put on these trouser jeans so that I could wear my Keen Mary Janes (lunch lady shoes) but it was too hot so I settled for these instead.

Head to Toe:
Sunglasses:same
Blouse: Target
Necklace: Sue Lion, purchased at Willow
Jeans:Target
Shoes: Crocs
Clutch:Thrifted

I picked up this clutch on a thrifting trip on Monday and I love it! Its actually a pretty good quality leather and I gave it a good cleaning with some leather luster!

It is the 2nd bag in my soon to be 80s clutch collection, according to my mom I only need 3 of something to have a collection! This bag is actually pretty big and I stuffed a ton of crap into it. It reminds me a football so...

GO BRONCOS!!!

Also on Monday, my mom and her BFF, Andrew and I went to Historic Downtown Littleton where I picked up this beautiful little locket at Willow. I wore it yesterday however and it scratched up my chest a little so I paired it with a higher neck shirt today.

Last but not least, these shoes. I have had these bad boys for about 4 years! I wear them to death every summer and they are getting a little faded but they are so comfy. I mean seriously they are CROCS! you can wear them for hours and feel like your in a heel and a croc! Good stuff.

It's getting late and I am wrecked so its off for an early bedtime tonight, have a good one!

Awesome people

Disclaimer: i am about to use the word awesome...A LOT.

I saw this guy on he Colbert report tonight and I was impressed by how healthy and vibrant he was. I would have guessed that he was about 75 but he is 93!

Pete Seeger

Mr Seeger is a Banjo player , singer, songwriter who has worked with and outlived a lot of the greats. He is an OH (original Hipstah). Watching the interview with him I couldn't help but think, dude, this guy is awesome. It inspired me to post about the some other famous people who are awesome.

These awesome people are in no particular order.

Kevin Clash

Kevin Clash is the voice of the furry red baby monster known as Elmo. Because I have a toddler in the house I am no stranger to the 'mo, however I didn't know about Kevin until I saw a documentary called "Being Elmo, a puppeteers journey". Whether you have kids or not, if you need inspiration you should catch this movie. I saw it on Netflix.  Kevin has been playing the voice of Elmo since the  80's and he is the one who originated the Elmo philosophy that makes his so popular "Elmo Loves Everybody". I don't want to say too much about Kevin because I want you to see the Documentary. But he is most definitely awesome.

When I was a kid I love the Roseanne show. It was about a tight family unit with normal everyday problems. I am pretty sure I watched it every season until the last, when I was in high school  and didn't watch much other than cute boys on the NGHS drumline.  Something I loved about Roseanne even then was that she never apologized for who she was, fat, loud, bossy, loving, funny, devoted.  She just made her joke and lived her (scripted life). Most recently I caught the only season of "Roseanne's Nuts: and as an adult I admired her in a new way. She was still herself, Fat, Loud, Bossy etc, but she was also Feminist, Empathic, Mother. Roseanne is Awesome and I kinda wanna be just like her... only still me.

Julia Child

OK I will admit I didn't know much about Julia Child until I saw "Julie&Julia" which I know a lot of people hated, but I loved it and it is one of my top 5. After seeing the film I did what I walsya do a started reading up on MS. Child on the internet. Coincidentally my mother in law sent me a copy of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and so my love affair with Juila began. What can you say about a woman who fell in love in her 30's became famous in her 50's and won an Emmy at 89? Goes to show that you should never let someone tell you that you are too old for something, whether it be that Hello kitty tee, long hair or having babies. You have no expiration date!

"If fear of food continues, it will be the death of gastronomy in the United States. Fortunately, the French don't suffer from the same hysteria we do. We should enjoy food and have fun. It is one of the simplest and nicest pleasures in life."
-Julia Child, Who by the way was rumored to be a spy!

 Betty White

" Thank you for being a friend... travel down the road and back again". I love Betty white and all of the golden girls, this was another of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I will admit that I watched it on lifetime in the morning while getting ready for work for about 5 years. I have seen every episode at least twice. What I love most about Betty though isn't her amazing roll as Rose Nylund but her attitude now, having a career resurgence at 90 years old and handling it with grace and poise, and the occasional peen joke (love a good peen joke).  Also nice work on keeping your hair platinum and your lips pink for 50 years!

My last awesome person should come to no surprise. In fact I am not even going to write much of a blib. You all know and love him, and if you don't you should watch his work again.

Neil Patrick Harris

You always make me laugh, you look great in a suit and "when I start to feel bad, I just stop and start being awesome instead". I am going to repeat that to myself for the rest of my years.

Who are your favorite awesome people? Have a good one kids.
